Hackney Council has stated that ‘Landlords who put lives at risk by ignoring serious damp and mould issues will face fines and legal action after the Council agreed record new investment to improve living conditions and step up enforcement against rogue landlords.’
They have added an additional 25% increase in funding (£400,000) a year to the Council’s private sector enforcement team claiming it ‘is a vital part of the Council’s new budget, and will be focused on expanding our capacity and ensuring private landlords meet their duty to tackle damp and mould and provide a good, safe home to their tenants.’
