Help to Buy (equity loan scheme) – data to 31 May 2023

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) has released statistics regarding cumulative sales since the launch of the Help to Buy (equity loan) scheme on April 1, 2013. The key points from the release are as follows:

  • Between April 1 and May 31, 2023, a total of 106 properties were purchased with an equity loan, reflecting a sharp decline of 99 percent compared to the same period in 2022.
  • From April 1, 2013, to May 31, 2023, a cumulative total of 387,195 properties were bought with an equity loan. Among these, 328,346 properties were acquired by first-time buyers.
  • The aggregate value of the equity loans provided under the scheme amounts to £24.7 billion.
  • The total value of the properties sold under the Help to Buy scheme reaches £109.2 billion.
