England’s housing plans would consume entire cumulative carbon budget: report

The Ecological Economics has published a report which finds that the government’s plan to meet England’s housing affordability crisis by building 300,000 new homes per year will consume England’s whole cumulative carbon budget [1.5°C] by 2050.

The report says that other strategies for meeting society’s housing needs are theoretically possible, but they face a challenging political economy.
