BEIS last week published the long-awaited Clean Growth Strategy which (as part of the wider Industrial Strategy) sets out how the government intends to meet the aims in the Fifth Carbon Budget of limiting the UK’s annual emissions to 57% below 1990 levels by the year 2032.

Government announced as part of the strategy that it will:

  • consult on improving energy efficiency of new and existing commercial buildings

  • consult on raising minimum standards of energy efficiency for rented commercial buildings

  • explore how voluntary building standards can support improvements in the energy efficiency performance of business buildings

  • consult on simplifying the requirements for businesses to measure and report on energy use

  • review the Green Deal

The Strategy has been published alongside a draft Bill to impose a temporary energy price cap, which (subject to parliamentary scrutiny) BEIS hopes will come into force at the end of 2018.

Views on the overall strategy are sought by 31 December
